Silren

Remission

Silren left Errand and Razkil at their game of checkers, saying that he wanted to look for Ferrahn. Errand barely paid him any attention, his mind on where to next move his pawn, but Razkil nodded slowly. There was trust in his eyes, trust that he would make everything all right for Ferrahn. Sadly, he didn't share the same confidence Razkil did.

Slowly, he made his way to the roof where the cats liked to be. As he'd expected, Ferrahn was with Evien and Luthien. And just as he'd expected, they were at play and wouldn't be done until they tired out and fell asleep. But he had to talk to Ferrahn, so he stood where he could see them and waited.

Luthien noticed him and Silren knew from the way his tail flicked back and forth, he was wondering if he should keep the news to himself. Evien noticed him then, and unlike his twin, he looked at Ferrahn and then back at him.

I'd like to talk to Ferrahn, Silren told him, sure that he could get Evien to help him, even if Luthien wasn't likely to.

He watched as the twins kissed and caressed, and sighed. They were too comfortable to want to move. He sat down and looked up at the stars. Perhaps one of them would tire soon.

A few minutes later, he heard a shuffle and turned his head to the side. He got up on his feet at the sight of the twins moving towards him. Luthien's face had a speculative look to it and Silren tried not to turn away too quickly. The cat had always made him nervous. Evien's face revealed nothing of his thoughts, and he was given a nod to acknowledge his presence. They were never cold, especially not when they wanted to play, but always, they were unapproachable unless they invited you in.

"I'd be careful of what I say to him," Luthien murmured as they walked past him.

But that was the crux of it and they knew that. Everything he said to Ferrahn always turned out wrong.

Luthien chuckled, as if he'd heard his thoughts and the twins disappeared around a corner.

Silren took a deep breath and he thought he was rather proud of how his steps were rather firm as he moved towards Ferrahn.

Ferrahn was curled up on his side, purring softly to himself in his sleep. So that was why the twins had been willing to leave. Silren sat down beside him and laid a hand on his head. Ferrahn murmured and shifted closer to his warmth. Before a few minutes had gone by, Ferrahn had wrapped himself around him, arms around his waist, head pillowed by his groin and his legs wrapped around his. It was nice, Silren thought. It was always nice when Ferrahn was content. He let himself relax and let Ferrahn's warmth and purrs envelope him.

"Silren?" Ferrahn murmured a long time later.

"Yes?"

"I thought I was dreaming."

Silren smiled, and looked down at him. Ferrahn smiled back, and his tail stroked his thigh slowly. Ferrahn reached up and stroked his cheek.

"Did I hurt you?"

Always, he was the first to face the problems that come up between them.

"You don't like how Sakaki looks?"

"He's fine."

"Oh." He couldn't remember what it was he had really wanted to say.

Ferrahn sat up and hugged him, purring deeply against his ear. It was as if Sakaki had never happened, Silren thought as he hugged him back. But he had to make sure, he thought. That was why he had come to look for Ferrahn. To make sure he was all right with things. But before he could speak, Ferrahn did.

"A big body doesn't really matter," Ferrahn said softly, almost to himself. "You might want to look good next to Razkil, but you're here."

Silren nodded slowly.

"Want to make me feel better?" Ferrahn asked with a slow smile.

Silren felt himself smile at the mischief in his eyes.

"Is that a yes?"

"Yes."
